Ruins from India’s ancient Harappan civilization are found in Lothal, near Utelia

Gujarat takes its name from the tribe of Gujars which was a subtribe of the nomadic Huns. Gujarat has early mentions during the stone age settlements, however, its presence was greater during the bronze age settlements like the Harappan (Indus Valley) civilization. It contains ancient cities like Lothal, Dholavira and Gola Dhoro which were the hub of commercial activities. Lothal was India’s first established port. Various ports were established along the Gujarat coastline which resulted in the boom of trade, especially during the Nanda, Gupta and Mauryan empire
