The people of Kerala are known as ‘Keralites’. They are simple, down to earth, people who are also proud and fiercely protective of their ancient practices. They are humble people who seek happiness in the simple pleasures of life.
The Keralites speak Malayalam which is the regional language. They are known to value education and boasted of a 100% literacy rate not too long ago. It still has the highest literacyrate in the country.
Keralites are also very tolerant towards all religions and communities.
Kerala is also home to some people who have brought recognition for the country in different fields. Arundathi Roy from here is a Man Booker Prize winner. Shashi Tharoor, the minister for human resource development, is from Trivandrum.
