A Sadhu (Saint/Hermit) in Varanasi is a typical sight

The people of Varanasi are mainly Hindus, Buddhists or Jains who have migrated from different places to reside here. A huge part of the population are people who have various illnesses or are rather old who have come here to grade death and attain liberation from the circle of life and death. The people here are orthodox and are attached to their religious and cultural values which make them very God fearing. They are also very dependent on each other despite being from different communities and live in harmony with respect for another's’ beliefs and traditions.
